Hamburger Potato Casserole is a classic comfort food dish that brings together simple, hearty ingredients in one satisfying bake. Ingredients
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced (about 4–5 medium)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing dish)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven – Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Cook Beef – In a large skillet, brown ground beef with diced onion over medium heat. Drain excess fat. Season with salt and pepper.
- Make Sauce – In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
- Layer Casserole – Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared dish. Spread half the beef mixture on top. Pour half the soup mixture over the layers. Repeat with remaining potatoes, beef, and soup mixture.
- Bake Covered – Cover dish with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
- Add Cheese – Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top (if using), and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
- Serve – Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Freezer: Wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the oven.
