🧂 Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes (or 1 bag frozen French fries)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of mozzarella and parmesan)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
🔥 Instructions
1. Prepare the Fries
- If using fresh potatoes: peel (optional) and cut into fries.
- Soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat dry.
2. Season the Fries
- Toss fries in olive oil, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
3. Bake or Fry
- For baking:
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy. - For frying:
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
4. Add the Cheese Crust
- In a large nonstick skillet, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly to form a thin layer.
- Let it melt and begin to crisp slightly (about 1–2 minutes).
- Add your cooked fries on top of the cheese and gently press them into it.
- Let cook for another 1–2 minutes until the cheese turns golden and crispy underneath.
- Flip or slide out the fries with the cheese crust attached.
5. Serve
- Garnish with chopped parsley or extra cheese if desired.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces — ranch, spicy mayo, or ketchup.
🥶 Storage & Reheating
- Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
- Reheat: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5–7 minutes to restore crispiness. Avoid microwaving, as it makes the fries soggy.
