Chocolate “Salami”
Introduction
Chocolate salami is a playful no-bake dessert that looks just like a traditional cured meat but tastes like pure indulgence. A European favorite often made around the holidays, this treat combines crunchy cookies, toasted walnuts, and a silky chocolate mixture for a rich and satisfying bite. It’s simple to prepare, requires no special equipment, and always sparks conversation at the table.
Ingredients
- 2 packages (4.9 oz each) Maria’s cookies, crushed
- 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped and toasted
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup butter, cubed
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Crush Cookies – Place Maria’s cookies in a food processor and pulse into fine crumbs. Alternatively, place them in a resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin.
- Toast Walnuts – In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast chopped walnuts for 3–5 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently. Set aside to cool.
- Melt Chocolate – In a saucepan over low heat, combine chocolate chips, heavy cream, and cubed butter. Stir continuously until smooth and glossy.
- Mix Together – Remove from heat and stir in cookie crumbs and toasted walnuts until well blended.
- Shape the Salami – Lay a large sheet of plastic wrap on a flat surface. Spoon the chocolate mixture onto the wrap and shape into a log. Roll tightly, twisting the ends to seal.
- Chill – Refrigerate for 2–3 hours or until firm.
- Finish & Serve – Unwrap, roll in powdered sugar to mimic salami casing, then slice into thin rounds.
Storage
- Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
- Freezer: Wrap tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
