Tender noodles are tossed with savory ground beef, crisp vegetables, and a rich soy-based sauce that brings everything together in perfect harmony. It’s an easy weeknight dinner that comes together in under 30 minutes — no takeout required!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225 g) lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage or broccoli florets (optional)
  • 3 green onions, sliced

For the Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles:
Boil noodles according to package directions. Drain and toss with sesame oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the sauce:
In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, ginger, red pepper flakes, and water. Set aside.
  3. Cook the beef:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Add the veggies:
Stir in onion, garlic, carrots, bell pepper, and cabbage (if using). Sauté for 3–4 minutes, until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Combine everything:
Add the cooked noodles and sauce to the pan. Toss everything together for 2–3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the noodles evenly.
  6. Finish & serve:
Stir in green onions and remove from heat. Serve hot, optionally garnished with sesame seeds or extra green onions.

Storage Method

  • Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Warm in a skillet with a splash of water or soy sauce to loosen the noodles.
  • Freezer: Can be frozen for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
